We can help with

When the stakes are highest, you need an expert who combines clinical depth with the ability to communicate clearly in legal proceedings. Abacus provides independent expert witness assessments for solicitors, courts, and insurers across England and Wales. Our reports are objective, evidence-based, and produced to the standards required by the Civil Procedure Rules. Our expert witnesses are experienced clinical and forensic psychologists who provide independent assessments across a range of legal contexts. In family proceedings, we assess parenting capacity, attachment, risk to children, and the psychological needs of children in care proceedings. In civil and personal injury matters, we assess the psychological impact of accidents, medical negligence, workplace trauma, and other events. All reports are produced in accordance with Part 35 of the Civil Procedure Rules. We have experience giving evidence in court and responding to Part 35 questions in a clear and timely manner.

Here is what the expert witness process typically involves:

1.
Letter of instruction received
We receive your letter of instruction from the instructing solicitor. We review the instruction, confirm we have no conflict of interest, and agree to accept the instruction.
2
Assessment appointment
We conduct a face-to-face or remote assessment with the subject. The format and tools used depend on the nature of the instruction — we will confirm these with you in advance.
3
Records review
We review all relevant records, reports, and documentation provided with the instruction. Where additional records are needed, we will request these through the instructing solicitor.
4
Report preparation and delivery
We prepare a comprehensive expert witness report compliant with Part 35 of the Civil Procedure Rules. The report is delivered to the instructing solicitor within the agreed timeframe.
