Services for Children in Care and Adoption Support

At Abacus Psychology we are committed to supporting the emotional wellbeing and development of children in care and the people who care for them.

At Abacus Psychology we understand that many of the children and young people who find themselves in the care system have faced a number of challenges in their early years and need the highest quality of support and nurturing to meet their needs, build their sense of self-worth and enable them to reach their potential.

We also understand that those providing support to children and young people who enter the care system find the role highly rewarding, but often worried about the children in their care who represent some of the most vulnerable members of our communities. It can be challenging and stressful for professionals and carers to understand the best ways to support children and young people in care and know how to make a real difference.

We are committed to helping children and young people in care, and their foster carers, residential care staff and adoptive parents to have access to specialist assessments and interventions, support, supervision and training. We therefore offer a range of services at Abacus Psychology to best suit your needs and requirements.

Our Services

We offer a range of flexible services to best suit your needs including direct work with children, young people, parents and carers and work with staff groups and professionals.

Adoptive and special guardianship order families may be able to access support through the adoption support fund. The adoption support fund provide funds to local authorities and regional adoption agencies to pay for essential therapeutic services. We can assist through consultation to inform effective care planning and risk management and increased support for your staff including reflective practice, supervision and training.

We offer a variety of packages to suit your needs which may include regular reflective practice, supervision and support arrangements for professionals and residential care teams on a weekly, bi-weekly or monthly basis, giving you and your staff access to a Clinical Psychologist who visits your staff on a regular basis. This could also be accompanied with consultation time to discuss concerns about particular children and young people.

You can choose how you wish to use your dedicated session time to best suit your needs. For example you might want a shorter visit to facilitate staff reflective practice or supervision, or a longer visit such as a half or whole day to include staff reflective practice or supervision, some support with care planning or developing a risk plan and provide some direct assessment or interventions with a young people. Packages to suit your needs and are typically offered on a 3,6, or 12 month agreements to ensure your staff and young people get regular and consistent support overtime.
