Healing is Possible
Specialist trauma-informed assessment and therapy for adults — delivered with compassion, expertise and care.

What we offer
Trauma can affect anyone. Whether it stems from a single overwhelming event or years of cumulative adversity — abuse, neglect, violence, accidents, medical experiences, loss or ongoing stress — trauma leaves its mark on the mind and body in ways that can be profound and long-lasting. At Abacus Psychology Service, we offer specialist trauma-informed assessment and therapy for adults using the most effective, evidence-based approaches available. Our team creates a safe, compassionate environment in which recovery — at your own pace — is genuinely possible.
Why Specialist Trauma Therapy Matters
Trauma is not a sign of weakness. It is the mind and body's response to experiences that were too much to process at the time. Without appropriate support, trauma symptoms — flashbacks, hypervigilance, emotional numbness, avoidance and relationship difficulties — can persist for years and significantly diminish quality of life. Specialist trauma therapy works with the nervous system, with the body and with the memory itself — helping to process what was too overwhelming to integrate at the time, and to restore a sense of safety, agency and connection.
Our Adult Trauma Services
EMDR Therapy
Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a NICE-recommended, highly effective therapy for PTSD and trauma. It enables the safe processing of traumatic memories without requiring detailed verbal accounts.
Trauma-Focused CBT
Trauma-focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy helps adults understand how trauma affects thinking and behaviour, and develop new, more helpful ways of responding — at a pace that feels safe.
Complex Trauma & CPTSD
We have specialist expertise in working with Complex PTSD using phase-based, stabilisation-first approaches that prioritise safety and containment.
Trauma Assessment & Formulation
We offer specialist psychological assessment and formulation of trauma presentations — providing detailed reports for clinical, legal and insurance purposes as well as therapeutic planning.
Somatic & Body-Based Approaches
We incorporate somatic and body-based therapeutic elements for clients whose trauma is held somatically — addressing the physiological dimension of trauma alongside its psychological impact.
Trauma & Relationships
We offer relational and attachment-focused therapeutic support for adults whose trauma has significantly impacted their capacity for close relationships, trust and intimacy.
